The Public Works Department provides a quality environment for the Town of Elkin and ensures that the Towns roadways, streets and bridge infrastructure are safe, clean, and attractive.

The Town of Elkin Public Works Department provides the citizens and businesses with a wide variety of services. These include street maintenance, snow & ice removal, weekly garbage collection, yard waste collection, water production, and water distribution.

The Streets Division maintains over 30 miles of streets including rights of way, signs, and snow and ice removal within the incorporated Town limits.

The Public Works Department oversees curbside weekly garbage collection and a bi-weekly recycling program to all homes in Elkin city limits and many of the businesses which is provided by a contract with Waste Management, Inc. 

The Water Division is responsible for the production of high-quality drinking water for the Towns citizens. It manages the Towns 75 miles of water distribution lines, hydrants, and meters.
