General Regional Information

Elkin is nestled in the beautiful Yadkin Valley region of northwestern North Carolina, famous for its rolling hills, a variety of vineyards and wine tasting rooms, hiking trails, fishing, kayaking, and best of all, a relaxing lifestyle.  We are a cozy little trail town that celebrates an active outdoor lifestyle. 

We are situated in the southwest corner of Surry County along the Yadkin River and the Big Elkin Creek, and are centrally located between Stone Mountain State Park and Pilot Mountain State Park, as well as 20 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, so there is plenty to enjoy if you are a resident or a visitor to the area.

This region is an excellent choice for a vacation getaway and a wedding destination, but is also becoming a popular choice for retirees and young families to relocate to.  The region offers moderate temperatures during all four seasons, and Elkin is also known for exceptionally clean water and air.  Being situated along the Appalachian Mountains' eastern foothills region, surprisingly seems to offer protection from most storm patterns throughout the year.  

Elkin is best known for our excellent schools, an award winning hospital, our cozy downtown, and year round events with the Explore Elkin and the Reeves Theater, but anyone can tell you that the people who live here make this area special.  Elkin is also an excellent choice for young families to raise a family as the cost of living is very affordable.
