Elkin Farmers Market
Our market shelter is used for many things: Weekly farmers markets with live music, Explore Elkin events (including Food Truck Fridays with live music), and it can also be rented for personal use (parties, meetings, etc).
Our partners
In 2012, the Main Street Advisory Board (MSAB) realized the importance of the Farmers Market to Elkin's community and wanted to help this initiative grow. They made an effort to help promote the Farmers Market and invest in the local farmers who brought fresh, quality produce to the market to sell to the community. Also that year, the MSAB set aside funds to market Elkin's Saturday morning market events, provide live music, create a website, provide directional signs, created t-shirts and market bags, all which increased vendor and visitor participation 300% in one year.

In 2014, the MSAB funded accessories for the new market shelter which was built with a grant from the NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission (http://tobaccotrustfund.org/). The shelter became a multi-purpose building and is used weekdays by the YVEDDI buses as the downtown's main bus stop. The MSAB paid for the new market sign, the picnic tables, bulletin board, directional signs and other small items needed to enhance the market.

Local Farmers
Our farmers are all certified and inspected at their farm locations before participating at the market. They grow all of the produce offered and some bring delicious freshly-baked goods for sale. You'll also find hand-crafted items, pottery, organic meats, honey, woodworking, leather goods and more! Plants for landscaping and for your home are available along with fresh herbs, veggies and fruits. Some items are seasonal, so the selections vary throughout the spring, summer and fall.
Some vendors participate in WIC and Senior Vouchers, and all are members of the Surry County Farmers Market who may also attend the Farmer's Market in Mount Airy on Tuesdays, and at Dobson on Thursdays.
There is an annual vendor fee to join, and an application must be turned in for review and approval before any vendor can sell at the market. As the market's focus is on farming, a ratio of 3 farmers to 1 craft vendor allows access for area artisans based on the number of farmers who have been approved for the season. All products must be grown, baked, or hand-crafted by the vendors. There are strict kitchen guidelines for baked goods as well.
Local music
If you are a local musician wishing to sing for tips, fun and fame, please contact Elkin's Main Street & Community Manager to book your dates. If new to the market, please include links to your recorded music if possible. Local music is sponsored by the Elkin Main Street Advisory Board each year.
