The Elkin Police Department is currently accepting applications for Telecommunicator. This position requires working a twelve (12) hour night shift, 7pm-7am. Position: Police Officer I
To apply for employment the applicant must:

Be 20 years of age or older upon date of employment.
Pass a medical examination.
Be a citizen of the United States.
Be a High School graduate or possess an equivalency certificate.
Possess a Valid North Carolina Driver’s License

Have no convictions of a felony or serious misdemeanor

Selection Process Information

The hiring of personnel by the Police Department is based on filling vacant positions allocated in the annual budget. The Police Department may utilize the following screening processes of applicants that meet the essential requirements for employment:

A written examination.
An oral interview.
An interview before an oral examination board and the Chief of Police.
A complete physical examination including a drug screening by a physician retained by the police department.
A psychological evaluation of the applicant by a certified psychologist retained by the police department.

Employment Information

Successful applicants will be employed as Police Officer I with the starting annual salary of $26,416.00 to $37,329.00.  

 


The Elkin Police Department provides supplemental training pertaining to agency policy and procedures.

The probationary period for newly appointed personnel is one (1) one year, subject to extension in accordance with the Elkin Police Department Policy and Procedure. Thereafter the officer will be eligible for normal salary increases on an annual basis based on employee performance.

Employment information

Successful applicants will be employed as a Telecommunicator with a starting annual salary of $27,439.00 to $30,636.00

The Elkin Police Department provides supplemental training pertaining to agency policy and procedures.

The probationary period for newly appointed unsworn personnel is (6) six months, subject to extension in accordance with the Elkin Policy Department Policy and Procedure. Thereafter the telecommunicator will be eligible for normal salary increases on an annual basis based on employee performance.
