Main Street

Bring your pups to Downtown Elkin!

Dog park

Downtown Elkin is definitely pet friendly. Many shops put out water bowls, we have doggie waste stations with baggies for unexpected needs, and we have pet-friendly businesses that sell treats, gift items, or offer dog grooming.

Doggie Water Bars:
The Barkery (Pet Treats by Melissa on E Market St) has a doggie water bar outside their front door when open.
The Yadkin Valley Heritage & trails Center (on W Standard St) offers a doggie water bar outside 24/7

Retail:
Most shops will allow a well-behaved dog to come in with its owner. Just ask at the door if you are unsure. Many do put out a water dish along the sidewalk on warm days.

Two pet specific businesses are Downtown Dog pet grooming, and The Barkery homemade pet treats (for dogs and cats) and pet gifts.

Restaurants:
Any restaurant in downtown that offers outside dining also is considered pet-friendly.  Some locations have outdoor back patios you might not notice, so here is a list of food/drink locations in downtown you can enjoy a meal with your (socially friendly) pup in outdoor seating:

East Main:
Southern on Main (patio with partial sun coverage)
Angry Troll Brewing (sidewalk cafe and seating down by brewery)

West Main:
Reeves Theater (sidewalk cafe)
Fruition Cocktail Bar (sidewalk cafe and back patio)
Elkin RailYard  (Outdoor Beer Garden)
Harry's Place  (tables at front of restaurant)

South of the RR tracks:
Nana's Family Restaurant (picnic tables out front)
Yellow Door Cafe (back covered patio)
Barking Coyote (outdoor patio deck)

North of Main St:
Dirty Joe's Coffee (sidewalk cafe)
Corner of Market St/Bridge St (offers picnic tables under the market shelter, and, across the street on the grassy lot where there is also a doggie waste station).
The Barkery Pet Treats (no seating) You can purchase pet treats, but it's not a restaurant.

Downtown Dog Park:
We offer a fenced-in dog park along E Standard St, where you'll find two sections (for a small or large dog) to enjoy. There is also water and limited shade and seating. Parking is available at the dog park.

There are also plenty of trails in downtown and at the Elkin Municipal Park (nearby) to  exercise  your pup! You can pick up a trails brochure at the Yadkin Valley Heritage Center and at the public linear park on W Main St (115 W Main). There are also visual kiosks at both locations to see the trails nearby, as well as at the Elkin Public Library on W Main St.

Staying in a hotel downtown:
Downtown offers two locations that are dog friendly on Main Street for your stay with your pup.

Three Trails Boutique Hotel (by The Carolina Experience)
Maggy's Place

Please be sure to clean up after your pet!
Doggie waste stations are located in downtown at:
  • Heritage & Trails Center
  • Dog Park
  • Lot on corner of Market/Bridge St
  • North side of Bridge by the Public Library (near the Episcopal Church)
  • One location on E Main (across from Post Office)
  • One location on W Main (across from Angry Troll near base of stairway
Leash Law:
Elkin does have a leash law that all pets must be on a leash within the town limits if they are not on the owner's  property.  If downtown, at the farmers market, or at Crater Park, they must remain on a leash.  Once they are at the dog park, and are within the gated portion of the dog park, they are permitted to go off leash during their visit.
