Downtown Elkin Walking Tour

Are you interested in learning about downtown and taking a tour at your leisure? Download this short walking tour, which will take you through downtown historic districts and showcase 14 fun facts even some locals might not even know about!

Elkin is located on the National Register of Historic Places. The downtown is on the Downtown Elkin Historic District, and the residential neighborhood north of downtown, along Gwyn Avenue and its surrounding streets is called the Gwyn Avenue - Bridge Street Historic District.

The residential area west of downtown, along W Main Street, past the Big Elkin Creek (behind the library) has the oldest homes in Elkin, but this area had not been added to the National Register yet. The oldest home in Elkin is located there, which is a part of the walking tour handout.

This tour takes about 2 hours if you visit all locations.
